Most shops buy a machine, outgrow it, and start over: new floor plan, new automation, new integration project. The Unicorn 5-200 Modular is built so the machine you buy first is still earning its keep when you run eight.4
Stackable. Scalable. Automation-ready.
The platform idea in one paragraph: every module is a complete 5-axis machining center, 2250 mm wide, under 2 m² of floor. Modules dock side by side and share what single machines duplicate: tool handling, pallet handling, and material flow.4 Capacity grows by adding modules, and nothing you own becomes obsolete on the way.
The four stages
Stage 1: one module
A complete 5-axis cell with flood coolant, 78+1 tools, and a FANUC 31i-B5 Plus control. It earns like a normal machining center from day one.
Stage 2: add robot loading
A FANUC LR Mate cell docks to the module through the 410 × 308 mm automation door and feeds multi-cycle runs. The clamping does its part: an optional hydraulic vise operates from G-code, and an optional AMF zero-point system in the C axis locates fixtures repeatably.
Stage 3: cluster
Modules line up and share tool, pallet, and material handling in one footprint.4 One operator tends the cluster instead of walking between islands.
Stage 4: lights-out
The cluster runs nights and weekends with the cell designed to meet CE machinery requirements without physical safety barriers.3 The automation page covers how.
The economics, stated as targets
We publish these as calculated design targets, not field data, until reference installations verify them.5 The numbers come from SIMUL's engineering models of a five-machine production scale:
- About 50% less floor space than five standalone machines with individual automation.5
- About 2x output density per square meter of shop floor.5
- About 40% less capital for the same five-machine production scale.5
- 6 to 8 machines tended per operator, against 1 to 1.5 on standalone machines.5
After the first factory acceptance test in August 2026 we will publish measured data with methodology, and these targets get replaced by numbers with names attached.
Where stacking ends
Stacking means the modules are designed to share handling and control infrastructure as one production system.4 The design also has a stated limit: eight modules per cluster, and the first multi-module reference installation is still ahead of us.4 We say so on purpose; the footnotes on this page are part of the product.
